I finally found the cause. It is not the kernel. It is the video4linux
module.

I have rebuilt the previous ATrpms version,

video4linux-kmdl-2.6.18-194.8.1.el5-20090907-91.el5.x86_64

which is working with lirc just fine for me.

Maybe it is time of a new video4linux version ...
