more time...cant you craft a single rpm queary using the format string
option to grab all the tags you want all in one go?

are you using something like rpm -q --requires -p   to get the
reguirements list?

I know with rpm you can build a query string with whatever subset of
header tags that you want....all in one go...and have it output to
stdout....
 i have to look up an example.
