good point. I think RH9 is just a stopgap to RH10; which will come out with
the new kernel.

that's what we do for the systems we support. we're still maintaining some
RH6.2 boxen; but we're going to EOL them ourselves in a month or two; just
because getting new code to compile on old systems is becoming increasingly
difficult. (possible, but not cost-effective).

sounds like you want Debian, except for the RPM-based-ness.
I would suggest that chasing RH 'looks' will gain you little; you'll just be
playing catchup with them all the time, and most people will have little
incentive to switch to your distro over RH.
(but I'm likely to be wrong). :)
