Talking to one of my co-workers with friends over at Redhat (this is all
hearsay mind you ) the EOL for 7.3 has more to do with phone support
maintenance then anything else. Security updates for example would still
continue past December 31, 2003. Thats what I'm hearing from my sources
at least, again I must stress this is hearsay and not fact.

Now just from a Corporation relying on rh7.3 for servers point of
view...

Redhat Enterprise Linux AS 2.1 currently is based on rh7.1 from what I
gather. One could expect then rh-AS-2.2 (or whatever they name it) to be
based on rh7.3. Which would be smart on there part. If they release
rh-AS-2.2 before Dec 31 you could see a good deal of Corporate rh7.3
users who need/require phone support switching over. There are enough
binary diffs between rh7.3 and rh8 or rh9 that some users will have
problems just upgrading. Going from rh7.3 to rh-AS-2.2 *IF* its based on
rh7.3 could be very simple. New kernel, a few RPM's, sign a check and
your done. =20

In the end I think the Corporate world that relies on rh7.3 for there
servers will upgrade or not will be if security patches aren't released
or there needs on 3rd party vendor which won't install/upgrade under
rh7.3. Besides those reason I don't see much of a reason to rush out an
start upgrading systems. If your Corporation can live with the tools it
currently has on rh7.3 and security patches are available why move?   =20
