lpr not starting has nothing to do with your Samba definitions not showing up in the Windows Network Neighborhood. Still, it's something you need to fix. You need to understand that Samba and lpr don't really "know" about each other very much. Certainly lpr knows absolutely nothing about Samba. So, define the printer in /etc/printcap for lpr, and that should make it happy. The printer not showing up is related to nmbd and WINS. The nmbd daemon is responsible for making the NETBIOS names known to the network. At this point, I would recommend going through the Samba problem diagnosis documentation and see what all works, and what doesn't. The doc comes with the software. (Or it should. I seem to recall Red Hat not including all of it, but that's kind of hazy and I could be wrong.) The Samba problem diagnosis stuff, and the "Using Samba" book that comes with the package will both be a big help in gathering more information. The server IP is 172.17.60.6, and the printer IP is 172.16.0.116 . Since they appear to be on different subnets, I was inclined to suspect that I simply needed to specify 172.16.0.255 in the remote announce field.
