I did not find lcs.o inside the 2.4.9-31 kernel update, so I attempted
to use the old one when the network didn't load at boot. Has the
module(s) been renamed?

This website states that only 2.4.9-17 is supported:
http://oss.software.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/linux390/special_o
co_rh_2.4.shtml

As for having updated to a RawHide kernel, I don't believe so. The
updates I acquired yesterday are from
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.2/en/os/s390/.

All updates had lcs issued by IBM, e.g. 2.4.9-31 has one.
You are not "updated" into a Raw Hide kernel by any chance?

What's the URL of that IBM's website? They sure have a bunch
of them.

They did already. Not that it helps with freezes you were
expririenced, the code stayed the same.
