COMPILING a new kernel

Hi

I tried to make a new kernel.
i tried it with "make dep clean bzImage modules modules_install"
this i know from a i386.
I don't know if this is working on s390 too?
when i do it so, i get following error

#make: *** No rule to make target `bzImage'.  Stop.
