Any Newer KDE

Has anyone succesfully compiled and installed a newer KDE on their RH 6.2
system?

I'd love to give KDE3 a try, but compiling it seems like such a pain in the
tookus. And compiling on my Ultra 1 might be a bit tedious, but I'd be willing
to do it if I knew it would work in the end.

Anyone upgrade to KDE3? KDE2 even?
