Yes. That would be the grsecurity patch. You should really ask them
about this issue. The panic is in their code, most likely, in some
assumption they make about existing kernel infrastructure which is not
true for sparc32.

Then again, I suspect you're being overly paranoid. There have been a
grand total of ONE Linux/sparc kernel exploits published in the last 4
years, and I'm not sure that grsecurity would have prevented it from
being successful.
