I had a similar problem installing RH9 via an internal FTP server (MS) 
(I extracted the contents of the 3 iso images to the FTP dir)...I had 
the same error "unable to read header list file" and decided to try an 
HTTP install with read/write and directory browsing access instead.  
This worked with no problems??
