We already made the decision. And it wasn't because of technical merits that
we decided to switch. We decided to only purchase the minimum subscriptions
neccesasry for the application that we have go get our support.

Namely 1 db server (Progress V9) which needed it for the certification and
3rd party support.

That means that 4 other linux boxen in our network have (since last monday
last week) officially been converted from Red Hat linux 7.3 to Debian 3.0r1.
The reason we decided to switch has been the relative high annual price we
would need to pay.

So far we have had very little problems since the software differences are
not all that huge between Debian 3.0 and a vanilla Red Hat Linux 7.3
install. Even Progress V9 works mighty fine but we purchased the contract
for ES 2.1 basic anyhow.

And like a lot of others mentioned on the list, we don't need full blown
support. We need access to the RHN for the security updates.

If the annual price were to be Eur 150,- per machine per year we would not
have made the switch. For that price it would be too much hassle.

But it's too late now.

If the pricing doesn't change in a years time the 1 db server we have left
might be running something else besides Red Hat ES as well.

Red Hat EL is a good technical product and it has it's place in the market.
It needs to stay here. But only a fool would not listen to it's customers.

So far the score is that you lost $ 1400,- bussiness. If that is not a
direct gesture in what you have achieved here, I don't know what is.
