RE: tweaking desktop.... xvidtune?

So, here's my output from running xvidtuner:

Vendor: Monitor Vendor, Model: ViewSonic PF790
Num hsync: 1, Num vsync: 1
hsync range 0:  30.00 -  97.00
vsync range 0:  50.00 - 160.00
"1280x1024"   157.50   1280 1332 1492 1728   1024 1025 1028 1072 +hsync
+vsync

So I try and add this to my /etc/X11/XF86Config file:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier   "Monitor0"
        VendorName   "Monitor Vendor"
        ModelName    "ViewSonic PF790"
        DisplaySize  360        270
        HorizSync    30.0 - 97.0
        VertRefresh  50.0 - 160.0
        Option      "dpms"
        #"1280x1024"   157.50   1280 1328 1488 1732   1024 1025 1028
1072 +hsync +vsync

Of course the line I added is commented out because if I were to add it
gives me a message saying that it didn't understand the line that I
added.

Am I suppose to add something like "option" somewhere.

In the windows system it seems like the refresh rate is set at the max
which is 85Hz but in linux I dunno what it's set at. Linux was really
nice and it already knew my monitor type and set up all the settings for
it already.

Can you post the Modeline you got from xvidtune and you XF86Config file?
Also, the log file when X won't start would help too. Best to start X 
form runlevel 3, so gdm doesn't keep trying to start X.

It should work, but the Modelines are a but different in XF86 4+.
I have one in my XF86Config file that works fine.
