Well it sounds like it is less likely to happen in the rpmbuild level
and it would significantly trim the other.xml data size.

what if, as Panu suggested, it kept the last N entries as specified on a
commandline option - and defaulted to ALL?

then functionality doesn't change but it lets you decrease the data set
if you so desire?
