Using YUM to manage S/W distros other than linux

I've poked around a little and can't find a reference for using YUM to
manage distros other than linux. For example, say I have some s/w I want
to distribute to a number of sites but I don't want to re-write rpm and
yum. Can I just aim the conf at my repository of software and unleash?
It seems like it would work.
