[sentinix-list] SENTINIX development progress regarding next release

Hi!

Next version of SENTINIX is a bit postponed.  I have a hard deadline the 20th 
of January, if a new release is out before then, I don't know.

I've recently discovered a prog named "checkinstall" 
(http://asic-linux.com.mx/~izto/checkinstall/) that can monitor the "make 
install" progress and make Slackware, RPM or Debian binary packages of 
installed programs.  As far as I've seen during testing, it's working very 
well.

Thus, the next release of SENTINIX will have a proper binary package system 
and full installation, upgrade and removal features of packages.  During the 
weekend I'll be working on modifying checkinstall to make SENTINIX sxpkg 
packages.  The CD installation process will also contain specific package 
selection, similar to the Slackware approach.  Since sxpkg is currently 
supporting download and installation of packages from an FTP site, 
installation right off the net could be a feature in the future.   After 
installation, an admin should be able to remove a package at any time and 
install another package at any time.  sxpkg can currently download the latest 
version of a package from a sxpkg-specific FTP site and install it, just by 
typing e.g. "sxpkg -i pkgname".
