Thanks for your tests. I will run some setup tests myself similar to  
yours and see what info I can provide.

I do all installations with "desktop=mate" in the kernel boot cmdline,  
so some test results are different from not adding that to the boot  
prompt (Xfce vs. MATE).

I'll let you know what I find...
