   Yes, this means the partition is not aligned on a boundary. That should
have no impact on running out of room on a 300G (or 325G) partition.

   Rerunning cfdisk I specify a slow format to check for bad sectors on sda1
and specify ext3 as the fs. The installation process immediately returns me
to the setup for the next partition. There's no way such a large partition
could be formatted that quickly.

   I had xubuntu on this machine but could not get wireless networking to
consistenly and reliably work. That's why I decided to replace it with
Slackware. It's a brand-new laptop that originally had Win7 on it.

   How can I force a format with ext3 on sda1? 325G should take a while. I
think it's not seeing 325G and that's why the format is so quick.
