   I think the hardware's defective. Nothing is returned when I try 'dmesg |
grep eth', and when I boot using the xubuntu-11.10 live DVD it keeps
disconnecting from the wired network, probably because it can't find it.

   Rats! Have to call the vendor (a local Best Buy) about warranty
replacement.
