Get compat-wireless in case there is a problem with the driver from: 
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Download

You may want to see what wireless card you have by running lspci

If you print the Ethernet Card lines from lspci here, we can identify 
the driver you may need to install and the steps required to get it to 
work. Look at the dell the same way, it could be using a different 
manufacturer for the wifi.
