Firefox-11.0 Issue on 13.37/x86_64

This must be the season for me to have issues with portables. I upgraded
firefox from 8.0 to 11.0 on my Dell Latitude E5410 running -13.37/x86_64.
When I try to invoke firefox it either takes more than 1 minute to appear
or, the current issue, it tells me that it's already running so I can't
start a new instance. There are also several processes of the mplayer plugin
that show up on the process list.

I removed the package, downloaded a new copy and installed it, but that
did not make a difference. Opera comes up just fine so it seems to be
specific to my machine and this version of firefox. This has not been an
issue with previous versions so I would like suggestions where to look for
the source of the problem.
