   It's been a long time since I compiled a kernel so I'm not surprised that
I mis-remembered. I'll install the 3.2.7 modules today.

   Thanks. I didn't know to look in autostart.

   That's what I want to do. Nothing hybrid here: I disconnected wicd and
tried to use NM. I know it should work when I find a man (or Web) page to
teach me how to configure it via the nm-applet.

   Nope. The system was running just fine on the ethernet via eth0 until one
day last week.

   I'll install the modules and find a reference on how to configure NM for
static eth0 and dynamic wlan0.
