This message is addressed to any Slackware developers that monitor this list. First, if there is a more appropriate place to submit this request, please let me know. On the other hand, I would certainly entertain comments from the community as well. I have a couple of simple requests that I would like to see done before the next version of Slackware is released. Both of these are LDAP related. The first is in the cyrus-sasl package. I would like to see the "--without-ldap" option replaced with "--with-ldap" in the configure script options. This will compile in support for saslauthd to authenticate against an LDAP database. The openldap-client package contains sufficient support to make this work. I wouldn't necessarily suggest adding "ldap" to the -a flag in rc.saslauthd, but perhaps a comment to that possibility could be added. The second request would be to modify the openldap-client package and remove the "--disable-slapd and --disable-slurpd" options. This would compile in the ability to actually setup and run an OpenLDAP server. There would probably also be a need for an rc.openldap (interestingly rc.M is already looking for one) and maybe a sane default config. And, of course, it would probably be appropriate at this point to rename the package to just openldap since it would be more than just client support. I make this request for selfish reasons so I don't have to recompile these packages every time a new version comes out, but I suspect some others may find the changes useful as well. Moreover, I believe there would no impact to existing functionality. I would certainly be willing to help with the details of getting these changes done as I do have some experience with them, if there is an interest and willingness to adopt such changes. I do want to thank all of the developers and contributors that make Slackware what it is. Your work is appreciated.
