Slackware's dialog

I recall this being asked before somewhere, but I don't remember what 
the answer was.

If you run as root "dialog --title "WARNING" --yesno "BlahBlahBlah." 9 72"
you will get a nice dialog box in the terminal.

But, if you run the same command as a user, the colors break on the 
bottom and right sides of the box.

What was the fix for this? Or was there one?
