kde and ups

OK, so who has found the magic cure for KDE to shutdown immediately upon
a shutdown command? 

it seems kde only wants to exit gracefully (or should we say,
slllllllooooooooowwwwwwwlllyyyyyyy) noprmally I'm OK with this, but on a
UPS poweroff it needs to exit there and then. 

it takes 6 f---ing minutes for KDE 4 to exit, even on a "logout" from
normal session, if the desktop has been up for a couple of days or more
just trying to logout from a startx session, even a command line
shutdown, telinit 0, whatever, takes forever for KDE to go to black
screen and more forever till it exits back to console to be shutdown. 

Had a few corruptions lately because the box has been hard powered off
with depleted UPS because of KDE. 

considering UPS's issue a shutdown when at 2 or so minute buffer, 6
minutes make it useless. 

This doesnt happen on servers where there is no gui, they are immediate
shutdown regardless of uptime, all done and dusted within about 25
seconds, but on desktop KDE just hangs forever - I note google shows a
LOT of people have same issue. 

my gnome desktops were be up for months on end, and just exit when told
to, KDE after being up only a couple days or so is just a joke.
