You're right. Unfortunately, it's a known bug introduced in SLE 12 SP1[1]. You 
can:

* embed the desired script as you suggested (easiest solution),
* create a driver update disk (DUD) including the latest autoyast2-
installation package.

Probably I would go for the first option (the second one could be tricky).
