2.4.18 cures lost ide interrupts, but is slow?

Fellows,

last week I downloaded and installed the 2.4.18 kernel rpm
from Stefan Reinauer's ftp home.

(At ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/stepan/kernel/)

This kernel cured my multia from losing ide interrupts, but it
runs awfully slow now.

I can't see that I've run into any memory limit or such
(plenty free ram and hd space), and there are no suspicious
kernel logs, AFAIK.

I'm wondering if this kernel was targetted for a later CPU
version than mine and thus causing a lot of emulation hits?

(Can I trace this in runtime?)

Any hints appreciated.

/Lennart
