I am hesitating to downgrade > 7.1 to 7.0 to have correct gcc 2.95-2 instead of the buggy 2.96. This is heavily discouraged! The gcc 2.96 from SuSE 7.1 AXP has about 200 bugfixes to known bugs and is _far_ more stable on the Alpha platform than any gcc 2.95 ever was. With 2.95.x it is not possible to compile KDE2/3 and a lot of other software. gcc 3.2 is pretty ok, but it has trouble if you use TImode on Alpha. If you want to use gcc 3.2, you should take care to keep the old libstdc++, as the new version of this library is not compatible. I suggest installing the complete toolchain from ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/people/aj/Current_Toolchain/axp/ Stefan -- The x86 isn't all that complex - it just doesn't make a lot of sense. -- Mike Johnson, Leader of 80x86 Design at AMD Microprocessor Report (1994)
