Make sure, that the telnetserver and the ftp-Server of your choice is
installed. Also take a look in

/etc/inetd.conf

and activate the entries for telnet and maybe ftp (depentds on the
ftp-server you are useing). Last but not least start the ine tdaemon to
listen for connection requests to your machine.
