RE: Domino R5.0.11 on SuSE 8.0 freezes

You're right. It has something to do with the controller. When Linux starts it says hda-pio (= 60GB udma drive), hdb-dma (is 10GB original drive), hdc-dma (is cd-rom), hdd-pio (is nothing). It's wrong, but this is what it gets out of the BIOS.
It runs fine with the HDA big disk alone with DMA on.
It has trouble when I try to do something with HDB.

But I don't bother anymore. It runs fine with one disk, so that is the solution (ok, work around).

looks like either a faulty harddrive (the slave one) or problems with the 
controller.

i had such a problem myself once ago with a faulty drive that used to be 
the /var mount in the system, worked like a charm until you do stuff that 
uses /var alot (e.g. for temp files)
