One thing to keep an eye on is the "MAIL.WaitingForDNS" statistic,
and of course the router's queue.

If domain name services are unavailable, messages will be put on
hold. Retransmission efforts will occur less and less often, if DNS
is unavailable for a longer period of time. DNS availability can
vary, depending on your IP provider and network connection. That's
why I suggest to some of my customers to run at least a caching DNS
in the local network.
