Did you ever call notesjre? If not, go to your notes
data directory and execute (as root for shure):

/opt/lotus/notes/bin/notesjre

Domino does indeed work with SunJava 1.3.1 or 1.4.1.
Maybe you have to fidle a bit with the default jre
path. SuSE puts it at a slightly different place than
expected by this script.
