You have the option to set up your own Domino CA (Certification
Authority), which will allow you to create certificates which are
valid for several years. I think I remember a maximum of 10 years,
but I'd have to check.

You can also have a third party CA create/sign your certificates;
this is a matter of the intended purpose and the budget available.
I'm quite happy with my Domino CA, which I also use to provide
certificates to customers.

Unrelated: Can you configure your virus scanner *not* to add its
somewhat "annoying" tagline to the message subject line? ;-)
