Hello,

I have seen mail.box corruption since R4 from time to time during
high loaded times. I use 4 mail boxes today under R6.0.3 (Windows
platform). When one of them gets corrupted traffic is not stopped at all as
Domino uses the remaining ones (only in very rare occasions it blocks mail
transfers).

It is important that dead messages are cleaned frequently so the DBs
don't get much big. They should be compacted during the night
automatically.

I could not find anything on a quick scam of IBM Knowledge base for
possible causes.

One good suggestion I saw in this list is to shutdown router
automatically, compact the mail boxes and start it again. It may not work
when someone is sending email because Domino will lock the DB if not using
in-place compact method.

      Hope this helps.

In many years, I have never experienced the "death" of a mail.box at
all. Of course a lot of data is written into and removed from a mail
box database, but that is exactly what these databases are for. No
corruption should occur, or at least it should neither be expected
nor easily accepted. Just my two cents, of course.

If there are worries about the high I/O load, I suggest using i.e.
three mail boxes. They will be used round robin fashion, and maybe
it has a positive effect on the compacting process.
