Purchase just the media. 2.) Purchase yearly or bi-yearly maintenance. etc Tim Rainier Information Services, Kalsec, INC Adeleida Bingham <[email protected]> 09/13/2005 02:40 PM To [email protected] cc Subject Re: [suse-domino] SuSE Professional 8 vs SLES / Standard Server... what am I missing here? A million thanks to the great input everyone is providing - it is exactly the type of info I have been looking for. I appreciate that Professional can unoficially do the job, but all things considered, SLES it should and will be. The question is... SLES 8 or 9? SLES 8 is a bit old, isn't it. The environment we are looking at will consist of two servers: a server hosting a reasonably busy (5 or 6 Gb's/month) and business critical real estate website as well as an application for 200 users or so; and the second server will be an email server. Access from users are usually via dial-up, so we are looking at them mostly accessing from local, replicating every now and again. The webserver is the only one I really care about, it really should not ever be down for more than a minute or so before I'll be in hot water. Is there perhaps a "best install practices" beyond the redbook(s) for those that have put their Domino 6 server on a SuSE 9 platform? Is there a chance that I can take this opportunity and perhaps compile those lessons learned out there? We are getting in an übergeek to assist us with the Linux installation anyway, which we will document in detail, so it would be really nice if I could combine that with some practical experiences of those of you who have been running on SuSE 9 servers for a while. These installations will take place in the next week, so I could post a document in a week or so after that, given enough input. You can also just mail me individually if you don't want to spam the list and I'll include your comments in the final doc. I promise everyone will get credit where credit is due! This would be such an excellent reference, especially since I'm sure it will become the platform of CHOICE for Domino 7! Just as a matter of interest with regards to the pricing difference to SLES8 and 9, you can see for yourself here: http://www.novell.com/products/linuxenterpriseserver8/pricing.html at $919 (there is no 2 CPU option for x86) http://www.novell.com/products/linuxenterpriseserver/pricing.html at $349 Makes no sense to me?...
