If you wiped everything from /var/cache/fou4s/ (don't forget about the hidden .cache.$HOSTNAME directory!), then I really have no clue what could be wrong. A fou4s update should also clear all caches (fou4s --cleancache). I hope that you didn't kill the whole /var/cache, as not everything there belongs to fou4s.
