I agree with you Thomas, missing dependencies are a=20
nightmare when trying to install new software on Linux.

It's well worth the effort to get Smart installed on your=20
system though.

Smart is smart enough to work out the missing dependencies=20
required for any package you want to install. It will then=20
download and install those required dependencies in the=20
correct order to fullfill those missing dependencies.

Here is something to help you install the dependencies=20
actually required by smart. Once you have smart up and=20
running, then you should never see the 'Missing=20
Dependencies' message again.

http://susewiki.org/index.php?title=3DSmart#Installing_the_prerequisites

To run Smart all you need to do is su to root user, and run:
~>smart --gui

This will start the GUI. Smart can also be run from the CLI,=20
but the GUI is alot more pleasant and informative to use.

(You need root privileges for smart to be able to update the=20
RPM database. Obviously you cannot use Smart PM at the same=20
time as YaST, or fou4s, because the first package manager=20
you run will get the lock on the RPM database)

If you need more help on installation or any thing else to=20
do with smart, check out the following forum:

http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.php?showtopic=3D21121

Also I would recommend downloading and installing the Smart=20
RPM's from:

http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-navigation.php?cat=3D/System/smart

as these come with a full compliment of repositories to=20
download RPM packages from. IIRC SuSE's version of smart did=20
not include all the repos.

Please try and make the effort to install Smart and get used=20
to it. You will be *amazed* at how well it works. I no=20
longer dread having to install new packages - Smart now=20
makes package management on Linux dead simple. It is still=20
beta software, but I have no problems using it. I'm using=20
Smart 0.42 on SuSE 10.1 on this machine, and 0.42 on Fedora=20
Core 6 on my laptop.
