Hm. I went ahead on one of my 8.1 machines and it didn't ask for interactive 
mode. It just installed the new kernel without any intervention or asking. And 
I didn't see if it ran mk_initrd and lilo by itself. I figured that it ran 
mk_initrd since I had seen this before happening on 8.1 and Suse also says it 
does since 8.1 and the /boot dir looked ok. So I ran lilo just to be sure and 
hoped ... Everything went well, but there seems to be something wrong if it 
installs the kernel right away?
