This was due to a conflict between GVFS and the KDE MTP daemon
(kiod5), which prevented the MTP device from initializing properly.

You should choose one of the MTP daemons and remove the other.

Since you're an Xfce user, shouldn't this solve the problem?

      $ sudo rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep gvfs)

Best Regards.
