You just tell YaST that you want to use Network manager. Accept and exit
YaST. Then you restart your desktop and configure NM using the applet.

Network manager is set but does nothing I can not even get it to come up
even when I run directly from root as /usr/sbin/NetWorkManager.

Its not working at all all the advice seemed to work for everyone else but
not for me.
It was working in 15.5 so It seems I must have a second such machine with
15.5 not 15.6 just to use wireless.
Sadly whatever made 15.5 work was lost to that hard drive crash and the
test reinstall did not work.
I can not even detect and use a usb wireless.
