I think the system's self-protection mechanism kicked in because the
file system became read-only.

You should be able to determine the cause of the read-only status by
checking the kernel error log (# desag | tail 50).
You should also run a disk health check using 'smartctl'.

However, since you've already performed a recovery, the only thing you
can do now is run a health check on the hard drive.

You should be careful to prevent this from happening again.
