Re: Suse 8 , AX25 and Baycom

Just reading the message below.
You should find configuring ax25 support in SUSE 8  quite easy.

If you goto the suse control panel and select install/remove programs.
Then install all the ham radio programs supplied by suse. You must
install Libax25, axtools & axutils minimum.

Configure /etc/ax25 files, i can help you there if you like.

To activate suse linux kernel support

insmod ax25
insmod netrom
insmod baycom (if you use baycom)

you then need to turn on interfaces with kissattach etc etc

I put all mine in one script and run that at boot time.

For YFS BBS i never had to recompile the supplied Suse 8Pro kernel.


My ports are:
1 x 144.925 IP port
1 X 70cms mail forwarding port
1 X axip Internet connectivity port
1 X axudp Internet connectivity port
1 X ipip (Tunel) ampr net gateways port
1 X eth0 ethernet port link to my ADSL Router
1 X eth1 ethernet port for Lan

 I run:
Linux FBB
Exim SMTP mail
Qpop Pop3 server
INN News server
Apache Web Server
HTPP Converse server
MailGW Mailgateway (ax25 <-> TCPIP)
and more.

This is all done on one Suse8 400Mhz Machine

which sits most of its life idling away nicely.
CPU states:  0.5% user,  1.3% system,  0.0% nice, 98.0% idle

As a BBS system this is where Linux wins, it just runs and runs and
doesnt require a fast machine.
