I've got one of the 8506 series SATA RAID controllers running the stock
3w-xxxx driver with no problems so far - had more problems finding an XP64
driver for it....

I supose you mean the 3ware 9500S series controllers.

I couldn't find any drivers for suse 9x 64 for the 8506 series.
