What are the possibilities for running these apps in the future in some 
sandboxed way, so as to get around the bitrot and dependencies issues? I 
don't know if that can be done with an AppImage.

You just reminded me that Krename is another of the apps that provides a 
stumbling block for me for a full KF5 transition. The other two I rely 
on more heavily are Komparator and Audex.

I've already enquired on the main opensuse list about Komparator 
alternatives and whilst one or two apps can mimic certain functions, 
there's just nothing that really reproduces all of its features, 
especially its KIO Slave integration. Sadly it looks like a long 
forgotten application.

As for Audex the CD ripper, there is really just one small bit of 
functionality I asked the Audex developer to add years ago that I can't 
replicate in K3B or other apps: taking the first x character(s) from the 
artist string to use in the file name/path format, so as to 
automatically sort ripped discs into alphanumerical subfolders. I might 
see if I can get the K3B devs to add that as it does just about 
everything else.
