That's about *displaying* an email, not sending it. grantlee is a theming engine that's used to display mails according to a configurable theme/style. The error message seems to indicate a problem with the used theme. I don't get that error message in akonadiconsole here either though. Is this 17.12.0 already, or still 17.08.3?
