Hello,

a friend of mine is running opensuse 10.2 on his IBM A31. He has problems
using the external VGA port as a second display cloning the main screen using
the default Xorg video drivers (tried both "ati" and "radeon"). The video
card is a Radeon 7500 card sometimes also called Radeon LW.

Basically X is running fine. I configured X using sax2 and enabled clone mode
in a resolution of 1024x768. The primariy display runs fine however the
external monitor that should display a 1024x768 desktop is simply black.

It seems to get a signal however, since you can see it flickering a very short
while when X starts but then its completely black, no matter what you do on
the laptops primary display which is running fine.

When you connect a second monitor and then reboot you see a cloned picture on
both displays even when X has started. However in this case on the external
monitor the resolution is 1024x768 but the desktop is larger so on the second
display you only see part of the desktop and you have to "scroll" around.
Once you unplug the external monitor and then restart the X-Server you will
never see anything but blackness on the external display until you reboot.

Does anyone know a solution to this?

Thanks very much
Rainer Krienke
