The dmesg says that this machine has a bcm4400 gbit ethernet card built
in. There are probably different P35 versions around.

The b44 driver is loaded, which should be able to drive this card.
If possible, I'd try a different ethernet switch first. I have had
issues sometimes with some NICs not wanting to communicate with some
types of switch.

Sascha is talking about LAN, not WLAN.

Maybe the output of lspci could be helpful,
or try "ifplugstatus eth0" to find out if the driver thinks that a
cable is plugged in.

Maybe the b44_debug module parameter can help debug this issue, but
you'd need to look into the driver source for useful values for this
parameter first.

Is this DHCP or a static setup?

Checking with tcpdump if the interface sees any "foreign" traffic is
also a good way to make sure the hardware is working.
