Yes, perfectly, even as 'root' (after a 'su'), with either C-Sp or Sh-Sp.

The SuSE package, GNU Emacs 21.3.1, compiled 2006-11-27 on tanajew, installed
here on a system on which 10.2 was installed from scratch (with formatting, no
update).
