I'm not sure but I guess the terminal emulator is misunderstanding
the current locale on your system or cannot deal with that locale
correctly.

If you are using ibus-anthy, please switch to ibus-mozc.

I gave up to show IME mode of Anthy. Because most users do not use it anymore.
Or enable property panel of IBus.

Also, changing your input method framework into fcitx is good idea
if you don't use GNOME 3.
