Avidemux is a very useful app, apart from cutting, pasting and joining it's very useful for files that ffmpeg falls short simply loading 
and saving the file very often fixes, it does have a problem with libraries and crashing, I usually do a local system rpmbuild of it and 
that's a lot more stable. It's matured to a point where it warns you if it can't handle a file properly.
