RE: CD

Hi , I have just started using Linux and I have just loaded 
SuSE 8.1 and I am having problems loading the cd drives 
for cd writing ,I have tried xcdroast and k3b and in both 
cases when I run the program the writer is shown in the 
boxes as both the reader and writer drive, There are drop 
down menus but they only have the one drive available 
this is the writer can anyone help me please,
I have checked the hardware and both cd rom drives are 
shown but only one is shown has a icon on the desktop.
